The EU has fined Microsoft $613 Million, but that's the tip of the iceburg. The fine is a slap on the wrist. The real pain comes from the other requirements. One of them is to unbundle Media Player from Windows. The other is to release documents so other server products can maintain interoperability with Windows. Pretty intense. Microsoft will appeal of course.
Now I do agree that $200-$300 for an Operating system is pretty crazy. The problem is, people will pay for it. With no immediate competition, Microsoft can charge whatever the market will pay for its products. Do not tell me that Linux is a viable option. It plainly is not. Have you ever tried to recently install or USE Linux? Let's face it, if Linux wants to start to widdle away at Microsoft's desktop market, they HAVE to make the interface easier to use. RPMs and stuff are great... but then the dependancies and stuff. In Windows... you double click an install program and that it. What do you think?
