Actually our bodies do, a lot of people just tend to ignore it XD
That's why between the ages of about 13-17 people are supposed to get up to eight to ten hours of sleep in order to live the healthiest lifestyles. Basically the basic schedule is go to bed around eight or nine, wake up around seven-nine, eat breakfast...so on and so forth.
That's because you've just been eating cheerios O_o
We learned this in school:
Our bodies–and the cells that make up our organs and tissues–operates on a series of clocks that all sync up as part of our circadian rhythm. In a recent Wall Street Journal article, columnist Shirley Wang spoke with Dr. Fred Turek about how being off schedule causes our bodies to change on a cellular level–often, for the worst. In trials with mice, scientists noticed that when they shifted sleeping and eating schedule in mice, the mice not only gained more weight but their new behavior also started to mess things up on a cellular level.
I've stopped drinking pop, too. But I've been gaining weight...in muscle! Woo! I was underweight for the longest time until I finally started to eat more protein and maintained a healthy balance of whole wheat and what not.
Also, swimming, track and soccer help as well as daily weight lifting.

The only things I've been drinking lately is water and milk (in my oatmeal for my breakfast). I'm lucky to have a high metabolism, as it really allows me to enjoy my food and not worry about weight gain.
