Let's play the genre game, kids Fri Oct 6, 2006 6:38:45 AM#25122Perm Link
This came up else where so I decided it might be fun to do it here too:
What's your favorite movie genre(s)? And, if you can think of any, what's your favorite movies from those genre?
For me, my main genre is actually more of an odd subgenre XD A mix between horror, mystery, and suspense that I formerly referred to as a 'psychological horror'. Wikipedia, however, calls it 'Mindfuck'. Considering almost all my favorite movies are in the list they have, I reckon that's probably my genre XD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindfuck
Currently, Stay and Jacob's Ladder are alternatively my favorite movie. I also LOVE The Machinist and Silent Hill (the games are better, though, and much more true to the genre).
I'm also a plain old Horror fan, but I tend to skip Slasher flicks (I do like Nightmare on Elm Street, though). Saw, Seven, and such are examples of my favorite types of horror. I usually prefer serial killer themed horror movies over monster/immortal killer movies because...well, it's just much more interesting. + I'm addicted to True Crime shows. I'm dying to see The Black Dhalia. And not just because it shares a name with a Silent Hill character. I hate vampire movies, though.
My other major genre is, of course, Animation (although I don't consider it a genre, it's more of a medium, it usually has it's own section so whatever). Huge animation fan here XD If they intelligently blended horror and animation, I'd be in movie heaven, for sure. But, y'know, not anime...
My favorite movies are hard to name, I kinda love everything except the ones I reeeeally hate. But if I had to guess, The Lion King (it is so technically awesome and wonderfully written), All Dogs Go to Heaven, and The Brave Little Toaster rank well up there. Oh, I also loved Cars.
I'm only mildly interested in anime. I love Serial Experiments: Lain, though.
I like some Sci-Fi (12 Monkeys), too.
Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?
A quick list: Horror and Action films being my favorite genres. But if you can combine all four listed, even better if done right.
1.Horror: Zombies, Chainsaws, demons, monsters, haunted ghosts, aliens, etc... "The Shining", "Day of the Dead", "Evil Dead", "Pet Sematary", etc.
2.Action: Martial arts, gunbattles, adventure, war movies, action-hero, comic book, action-sci-fi, etc.
3.Comedy: Stupid comedy, smart comedy, dark comedy, mockumentary, etc. "Naked Gun", "This is Spinal Tap", etc.
4.Some Dramatic: The kind of movies that make you think a little. "Glengary-Glenross", "V for Vendetta", "One Flew Over the Coo-coos Nest", etc.
