Like whoa. Artistically, that's pretty damn amazing. How'd it turn sour, exactly?
Several years ago, we decided to make my old lamp studio into a bedroom. But, I can't have just a normal bedroom. It had to be something unusual and dramatic. So, I came up with this idea for a theater-themed room. When I say theater, I mean the ornate movie palaces from the early part of the last century complete with ladies heads molded into the cornice, a dramatic decorative paint job, and our collection of antique theatrical advertising art. During the planning phase of our project, I was looking through this great catalogue of reproduction appliqué and came across one that was a large stylized peacock. I thought that this would look great at the top of a headboard and proceeded to design one. Somewhere along the way I had a vision of a headboard where the peacock was the headboard itself. Remembering that a client of my wife was an artist who did murals, I contacted her and set up an appointment for her to come out to our place. I discussed with her what I wanted and she agreed to create it for us. However, many artists have one track minds and their own way of doing things. By the time the thing was finally done, it didn't look anything like what her original sketch was and I was just about ready to murder the woman due to my utter frustration from dealing with her. But, the headboard is pretty friggin KOOL in spite of it not fulfilling my vision. I will post pics of the room once we finish the painting. In the meantime, here's a teaser.
