Vista First Impressions. Tue Mar 13, 2007 9:48:35 AM#35568Perm Link
I have been using Windows Vista exclusively for the last 4 days, and I wanted to shed some light on it for anyone here who is interested in it.
For those who are curious, no, I did not buy it, I got it for free through my school.
Day one... 15 minute install without a hitch! Wifi works flawlessly, adapter detected, and the built in tools work GREAT!
Day two... My sound card doesnt work, and there are no drivers available for it... 2 hours later, I hack some XP drivers and have the card working better than before. I install Oblivion and CSS... they run fine, about a 10 fps loss, but not too noticeable.
Day three... Used for about 20 minutes, with Ventrilo. Worked fine.
Basically, what I have noticed is that hte program runs great, it looks amazing, although there are some hits to the performance. More tonight..
Its not who a person is in the inside, but what he does that defines him.
I get constant BSOD and graphical errors, but all of them are stemming from the TERRIBLE Nvidia drivers. They are all beta, but still, they should be better than this.
I will be dual booting Ubuntu 6.10 and Vista until they straighten their shit.

I played with the interface a bit on a store PC. There's no doubt that it looks beautiful, but I didn't get to see any real functionality. If anyone is going to go with Vista, I would say to purchase a PC made for it or build one going by the HCL. It seems everyone I've spoken to who uses it has some type of hardware issues when they upgraded.
