Letters from Iwo Jima Thu Jan 25, 2007 5:37:32 AM#32860Perm Link
This is a movie directed by Clint Eastwood and is nominated for an Oscar. Ken Wantanabe (The Last Samurai) is one of the stars. This is the movie about the Battle of Iwo Jima during World World II as told from the perspective of the Japanese who fought in it. It is only out in limited release right now, but I can't wait to be able to see it.
Has anyone seen it yet? I have read reviews that are fabulous, and that it truly shows the human element. No matter what side you fight on, there are people involved and people who have stories to tell. I hope it does well, and will show the unique perspective from the "other side".
I, also, *love* Ken Wantanabe. I read an interview that he did about how emotional it was to go to Japan and film many of these scenes. It is supposed to be a very powerful movie, and very thought provoking. I actually enjoy many WW2 movies (my hubby is a huge WW2 history nut). My favorites including Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers (on HBO). I will be interested to see how they portray the Americans in this new movie.
