Supermicro Unveils World's Only Dual-Processor Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) at SNW

Double-Sided Storage, 6Gbps SAS, Super SBB and More

ORLANDO, Fla., April 12 -- STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD -- Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI), a leader in application-optimized server and storage solutions, is unveiling the world's only dual-processor (DP) Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) system optimized for mission-critical, enterprise-level storage applications at Storage Networking World (SNW) in Orlando, Rosen Shingle Creek, booth 113, April 12-14.  Supermicro is also showcasing its Double-Sided Storage(TM) and other 6Gbps SAS (SAS 2.0) systems at the show.

"We are excited to offer dual-processor capability to the SBB platform bringing DP computing power with the advantages of dual-node high-speed cache mirroring to enterprise, mission-critical storage applications," said Charles Liang, CEO and president of Supermicro.  "Our innovative Super SBB (SYS-6036ST-6LR) is a fully redundant, fault-tolerant system that provides hot-swappable canisters for all active components."

Dual 10-gigabit Ethernet connections between each of the two dual-Xeon serverboard canisters and the system midplane deliver high-speed cache mirroring. If one serverboard fails, the other serverboard can control and access the hard drives to keep the system up and running.

"We are excited to combine Supermicro's hardware systems expertise with the performance and ease-of-use delivered by the RELDATA unified storage operating system, RELvos, which includes our integrated clustering, replication and data migration software," said Steven Murphy, CEO, RELDATA.  "Combining our technologies with the latest advancements in storage hardware will offer our customers best-in-class, high-availability solutions with the significantly improved storage performance that is now mandated to support consolidated hypervisor environments."

The Supermicro system is a superset of the new SBB standard. The 3U Super SBB supports sixteen 3.5" hot-swap HDDs (SAS1, SAS2 or Enterprise SATA) with the option to expand beyond sixteen HDDs by using Supermicro's SBB JBOD system (SYS-937R-E2JB).  Each of the two serverboard canisters supports dual-Xeon 5500/5600 series processors, six DIMM slots, three PCI-E Gen2 slots and 6Gbps SAS (SAS 2.0) connections. Equipped with 1200W (Gold Level) high-efficiency redundant power supplies and redundant cooling fans, the SYS-6026ST-6LR is a highly-available, high-reliability storage system at a competitive price.

Also featured at SNW is Supermicro's Double-Sided Storage(TM) chassis (SC847 series), which provides customers with direct hot-swap access to all storage drives while saving valuable rack space. With Platinum Level (94%+ efficiency) redundant power supply support, the server version of the chassis features 36 hot-swap 3.5" hard drive trays with 24 in the front and 12 in the rear.  For JBOD configurations, the chassis can support 21 HDDs in the rear for a total of 45 hot-swap 3.5" drives.  For more detailed information, go to http://www.supermicro.com/storage/.
