Sony's handheld upgrades it's firmware to version 2.0 adding several new features.

The Sony PSP recently received the 2.0 firmware upgrade finally adding a web browser, and wallpaper as the most notable improvements. This little upgrade also thwarts most of the hacks that have enabled the PSP to emulate classic games from the 8 and 16 bit eras as well as classic arcade games via MAME for the PSP. The upgrade is currently optional, but I'm sure it will be included and required on the next wave of game releases. And so the dance begins between Sony and the hackers. The browser is capable (despite no support for most common streaming video) though a bit sluggish with only 32mb of ram. It has several options to resize the site for the PSP screen, and controls that are convenient and easy to use. Text entry still comes down to telephone keypad entry ( I prefer the alphabet wheel using the analog stick favored by most of Ubisoft's recent Tom Clancy titles), but you can still enter a search or emergency email fairly painlessly.
