A Texas-based law firm is threatening a very serious lawsuit against 12 of the top game publishing companies in the world. Their claim is that they own the patent to the process that allows 3D graphics to be displayed on a monitor and they are seeking royalties on EVERY GAME that has ever used that technology. The publishers named as defendants in the case are Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, Activision, Atari, THQ, Vivendi Universal Games, Sega, Square Enix, Tecmo, LucasArts, and Namco Hometek. The patent owners apparently could have a case and people are saying that this will wind up going to court and it could very well mean a HUGE loss from the standpoint of the game developers. What could this mean for game publishers and the game industry if the patent owners do have a case? It's pretty scary. Read for yourself.
